Pioneer Citizen of Kansas City, Veteran and Businessman. Owner of the Askew Saddlery company in Kansas City Askew served in the Mexican War in General Taylor's Third Ohio Regiment. During the Civil War, he enlisted with the Union on 4 Jun 1861, from the state of Ohio. Service Record: Enlisted as a Lieutenant 1st Class on 04 June 1861 at the age of 36. Commission in Company A, 25th Infantry Regiment Ohio on 05 June 1861. Transfered on 05 September 1861 from company A to company I. Promoted to Full Captain on 05 September 1861 (As of Co. I. M552 (m=muster) Roll 3. He owned Askews' Saddlery. His gravestone honors his 7 year old son John, who died of scarlet fever. His wife was Laura, born about 1843 in Ohio.
