Ruby Mae (Frye) Phillips, 89, of Mount Jackson, passed away peacefully from stroke complications at Blue Ridge Hospice, Winchester, Va., on Aug. 5, 2015.

Ruby was born March 25, 1926, in Mount Jackson and was the eldest daughter of the late Luther Lemuel McKinley (Boots) Frye and Alice Mauck Frye. She was predeceased by her brother, Garland (Boots) Frye, and sister, Bettie Lineweaver.

Ruby is survived by her husband, Douglas E. Phillips, whom she married May 15, 1948, and her children, Alicia P. Deakins (Joseph) of Burlington, N.C., Patricia P. Shelton of Edinburg, Mary Ellen Phillips of Mount Jackson and Charles D. Phillips (Kristin) of Hillsborough, N.C. She has three grandchildren, Joseph R. Deakins (Rebecca) of Greensboro, N.C., Madison G. and Jackson C. Phillips of Hillsborough, N.C., and two great-grandchildren, Samuel J. and Ruby P. Deakins of Greensboro, N.C.

Ruby graduated from Triplett High School in 1943 and from Dunsmore Business College in 1945. She worked for Valley Fertilizer upon graduation from Dunsmore Business College, for Citizen’s Bank in New Market, and Farmers and Merchants Bank in Timberville. She sold Beauty Counselor cosmetics. She was a bookkeeper for Howell Metal Co. from 1968-86. After retirement, she was a full-time homemaker, enjoyed her flowers, attended estate auctions and traveled with friends. She was a member of the Hawkinstown United Methodist Church and a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

The body has been cremated with a private burial in the Mount Jackson Cemetery.
