Lillian "Joy" Porter was born Aug. 10, 1914, in Birnamwood to the late Emory E. and Laura (Holliday) Porter. Throughout her life, Joy was devoted to her church and faith. She was a very active member in Bible study groups, volunteered often and was a member of the Women's Fellowship Circle. In her free time, she liked to play cards, read and entertain. Joy was an avid fan of Milwaukee Brewers baseball and enjoyed watching and talking baseball with family and friends.

Joy will forever affectionately be known as being "The Hat Lady" for all of the beautiful hats that she wore over the years.

Joy died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Wausau Manor Nursing Home.

Joy is survived by her niece, Karen Passow of Racine; nephew, Gary E. (Marilyn) Passow of Roseburg, Ore.; two great-nephews, Bryan and Erik; special friends, Jane and Dave Beste, Lee Bulmer and Gloria Thomas; and many more extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Passow; brother-in-law, Fred; and dear friend, Hal Bulmer.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2010, at Peace United Church of Christ, Schofield. The Rev. Larry Treece will be officiating. There will be a visitation from 6 p.m. until service time Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Peace United Church of Christ Flower Fund, 1530 Grand Ave., Schofield WI 54476.
