Jesse J. Gray, 61, prominent Lawrenceville resident and former businessman for more than 30 years, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. M.L. Warner, Friday afternoon. He had been in ill health for several weeks following a stroke.
His wife Bertha C. Gray, died one month ago after a long illness.
Mr. Gray was born in Lawrence County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Gray, and lived his entire life in this community. He moved to Lawrenceville as a young man and entered the furniture and undertaking business with his brother, Elmore Gray, and they continued their establishment on North Twelfth Street for many years.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Ralph Gillespie of Lawrenceville, and Mrs. Gene Cook of Mt. Carmel; 4 brothers, Elmore Gray of Lawrenceville, Scott Gray of Allison Prairie, and Charles and Arthur Gray of Petty town; and one sister Mrs. M.L. Warner.
The funeral service was held in the Christian Church Sunday afternoon.
