Staff Sgt Eric Caban of Fort Worth, Texas had a zest for life. There was never a dull moment; he was definitely the life of the party. To say he had a big heart would be an understatement. He genuinely cared for and loved those around him. He graduated from Paschal High School in 1996. A year after graduating from high school, Eric joined the Army, where he became a sniper with the Rangers. In October 2001, he fought in Afghanistan, where he participated in a strategically important operation to secure the Kandahar airfield. In 2002, Eric ended active duty and decided to enroll in the University of Texas at Arlington. His passion for the Army had him re-enlist in 2004. After serving a short time as a sniper instructor, he started the process to become a Green Beret. Eric completed his training in March 2006 and deployed to Afghanistan in May 2006. He is survived by his parents, Efren and Elvira Caban, and two brothers, Edwin and Efren Jr., and maternal grandmother, Antonia Almodovar. He was 28.
