Katherina is the daughter of Catherina Beljon and an unknown father. She was her only child. She came to America in 1871 after Mathias Siebenaler wrote her and offered his heart and hand to her in marriage. Mathias's first wife Maria had died young and left four small children. Mathias remembered Katherina as a playmate in Mensdorf, and when she accepted his offer, he sent her a ticket to America. They were married in St. Paul on October 15, 1871 and they became the parents of ten children. Her mother followed her to America the next year. Katherina's birth record indicates she was born June 1, 1847 in Mensdorf.
