Born December 12, 1922, in Pauline, SC, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Pettit, Sr. and Pearla (Nichols) Pettit and the wife of the late J. C. Abernathy.
She was retired from Community Cash Stores after 35 years of service and was an active member of Canaan Baptist Church for over 60 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne Penn of Terre Haute, IN; a son, Keith Abernathy of Roebuck; a daughter and special sister-in-law, Gladys Hughey of Roebuck; a sister, Floye Tayman; a brother, John Earl Pettit; a special sister-in-law, Thelma Sanders; two granddaughters, Alison Cottrell and Keisha Shewalter; two grandsons, Don Penn, Jr. and Brian Abernathy; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation was 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2006, at Canaan Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Gideon Long. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to Canaan Baptist Church General Fund, 701 Canaan Road, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
