Cora's father bought land near Philadelphia, Mississippi in Neshoba county where they farmed for about 14 years. Every year they had to borrow money to buy seed to plant. The Salter family moved to Franklin County, Texas in about 1892 then relocated to the Waco, Texas area between 1900 and 1910.
In 1913 Cora was living at 2317 Lasker in Waco and was working as an office assistant for Dr. J. R. Ferrell. In 1926 she was living at 1228 Herring and was employed as a Department Manager at Goldstein-Migels. In 1914 Cora lived at 1914 Mitchell and was self employed as a seamstress. Cora married Edward C. Shelton on January 10, 1918 in Waco, TX. The couple were divorced February 9, 1925. In 1938 Cora lived at 1000 Columbus Ave and owned and operated The Cora Shelton Hosiery Shop at 713 Austin Ave.
Cora lived her last years in Dallas, TX where she died on December 21 1953.
