Alonzo Cain Jr., age 81, of Dahlonega, GA, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015 at his home following a short illness.
Junior was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was a member of Yahoola Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. He was the manager at the Post Exchange at Camp Frank D. Merrill in Dahlonega for a number of years and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Junior was an accomplished musician, playing banjo, guitar and harmonica in numerous bluegrass bands. He had a special fondness for gospel music and recorded many albums during his musical career.
Junior was the son of the late Alonzo and Aaroma Winkler Cain and was also preceded in death by sisters, Fairy Turner and Bertha Garrett; and brother, Brent Cain.
Funeral services for Junior are scheduled for 2 PM Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the Yahoola Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.
Rev. Terry Head and Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Monday July 6, 2015 from 4 PM until 9 PM and again on Tuesday until the time of service.
Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega is in charge of the arrangements.
