Our beloved mother, Carol Blalock Daniels Ethridge, passed away peacefully at her home on June 22, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 15, 1920 in Winston-Salem, NC to Arthur Leigh Blalock and Monte Rena Wells Blalock. Carol graduated from Central High School in Charlotte in 1938.
She and her late husband, Harold Daniels, raised three daughters in Charlotte. Throughout her life, Carol's focus was on family, friends, and neighbors.
Carol loved to entertain, and her family and friends remember her as an outstanding hostess for many occasions, including receptions, birthday parties, showers, luncheons, and dinner parties. She participated in many civic and neighborhood clubs and organizations, including the Charlotte Opera Guild and the Providence Plantation Women's Club and Garden Club.
Carol was a talented dressmaker. When her daughters were young, she drew inspiration from the latest fashions at Belk and Montaldo's and adapted patterns to make designer-look clothes for her daughters and herself.
Carol married Richard Ethridge in 1973, and enjoyed traveling with him to Hawaii, Mexico, and Europe.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by husbands Harold Daniels and Richard Ethridge; sisters Margaret Blalock Morris and Marian Isley Moffat; and brother William Francis "Buck" Blalock.
She is survived by her three daughters and their spouses, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church on Thursday, June 25, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Paul Canady and Rev. Jason Bryant officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.
