She was born Sept. 15, 1927 in Gifford to Herman and Jennie (Mennenga) Fruhling. She married John F. Ackerman in Rantoul on May 5, 1945. He preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 1993.
She is survived by two daughters, Rose (Mike) Lanter Mabry and Donna (John) Hartman; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Grace (Wayne) Shields.
She was also preceded in death by three sons, the Rev. Marvin Ackerman, David Ackerman and Daniel Ackerman; one son-in-law, George Lanter; one granddaughter, Alicia Ann Ackerman; her parents and one brother, Fred Fruhling.
She lived in Thomasboro for 55 years and supported her husband in his construction business, and they also had numerous apartments that she managed. After John's retirement, they enjoyed working together and farming their farm west of Rantoul.
She moved to St. Joseph in 1996 after the death of her husband and then moved to Urbana in 2007. She was a faithful member of American Lutheran Church in Rantoul for 55 years and even after transferring has continued as a member of the ladies' Martha Circle. She is a current member of Prince of Peace and with her beautiful voice she sang in the choir for several years.
