Wilmer was the son of Linford and Lillian (Biles) Ridge of Bensalem Township, Bucks County, PA. He was an automobile mechanic and worked in that field his entire life. Wilmer and and his brother George owned and operated the Ridge Auto Service in Bensalem for many years. Wilmer served in the US Army during World War II but was never deployed overseas. In September 1942, Wilmer married Pearl Lownie of Trevose PA. They were the parents of two children.
