Charles came across the prairie from Illinois, and he met and about 1854, married Mary in Provo, Utah, and between them they had eight daughters and two sons.

By the 1880 Nevada census, they were living in Aurora, Esmeralda County, Nevada, where Charles prospected, they had an active life to say the least.

Charles was an adventuresome person. Early in his marriage, he drove stage coach across the desert from Salt Lake City to Winnemucca, Nevada, and among all the drivers who lost their lives to Indians, Charles was the first driver to make it all the way, alive.

Later, Through his determination and persistence, he struck the mother-lode and became one of the owners of the famous "Standard" mine in Bodie, California.

Charles and his family moved to the Reno area about 20 years ago, and enjoyed watching their family grow.Husband of Mary McCarrol
