Smith-Hightower Wedding Date Set
The marriage of Miss Vernon Lane Hightower and Maffett Kennard Smith will take place Thursday evening, June 7, at 8:15, at the University Methodist church in the presence of relatives and friends. Immediately following the ceremony there will be a reception at the home of the bride's parents for the bridal party and a few intimate friends.

Maffitt Kennard Smith, 89, of San Antonio, died Monday in a San Antonio hospital. He was a 53-year member of Ben Hur Shrine Temple in Austin and was president of the Southwest Conference of United Methodist Church Older Adults.
While in Austin, he was a member of University United Methodist Church and was with Internal Revenue Service before his retirement.
Survivors are his wife, Dr. Vernon H. Smith; one daughter, Mrs. J. C. Thomas of Austin; two grandsons, John Robert Watkins of Lake Charles, La., and Lane Thomas Thomas of Austin; and one granddaughter, Miss Lucinda Thomas of Austin;
Funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Georgian Chapel of Porter Loring Mortuary in San Antonio with Dr. Darrel D. Gray officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Contributions may be made to the Choir of Laurel Height United Methodist Church in San Antonio or to the Waco Childrens' Fund in Waco.
