ELK RAPIDS - Mildred Cole, 89, of Elk Rapids, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005.
Mildred was born Oct. 2, 1915, in Milton Township, to James and Katherine (Easley) McLain. On Nov. 25, 1933, she married William Charles Cole in Elk Rapids. He preceded her in death.
Mildred was employed as a Michigan Bell operator. She also worked for Dailquist Dime Store, J.C. Penney, the Elk River Inn and Chuck's Gas Station. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #326, past Grand Officer, and a member of Meguzee, past Worthy Matron. In addition, she was a life member of the VFW #6507 Auxiliary of Chassell.
Mildred loved playing cards, knitting and crocheting, and was a great baker and gardener.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Don) Reed and Jayne (Lawrence) Tilley; son, William Charles (Sunny) Cole; sister, Evelyn (Clare) Easley; sister-in-law, Sylvia Cole; grandchildren, William Cole, Monica Veltkamp, Cole Reed, Chan Reed, Tim Tilley and Corey Tilley; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Charles Cole; son, James; parents; and brothers, James and Versil.
Services were held at the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes Feb. 27. The Rev. Dr. Dan Herlein of the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids officiated the service. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes."
