W.R. McDonald Dead.
Was Among the Early Settlers in Cowley County.
W.R. McDonald, who has been failing in health during the past year with arterial trouble, died at four o'clock Thursday morning, at his home, 1109 Mansfield street. Mr. McDonald was among the earlier residents of Winfield having come here in 1880, and entering the mercantile business. He was a member of the First Methodist church, and during his residence here, has taken an active part in the church work.
The deceased was born August ninth, 1842, at Moundville, Virginia being seventy-three years old at the time of his death. He leaves his wife, Martha McDonald and three children, to mourn his loss. The children are: Mrs. Frank Robinson of this city; Mrs. H.W. Mendenhall of St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. H.S. Cowgill of Carthage, Mo.; and a son, H.H. McDonald, of Chicago, Ill. As far as is known at present all of the children will be here to attend the funeral service.
Mr. McDonald was a member of the G.A.R., being first lietenant in Company L, Sixth Regiment, West Virginia. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows lodge. Funeral services will be held from the home, Sunday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock, with Rev. H.E. Wark of the First Methodist church in charge.
