Mark Don Wilcox was born June 24, 1957 to Donald and Katherine (Hennings) Wilcox. He was a 1975 graduate of Winnetonka High School in Kansas City, MO. He received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Wright State University and later received his Doctorate from Oklahoma University. Mark was a Professor of Music at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. He was an accomplished trumpet player, a teacher and mentor to many. Mark had performed with several notable artists and groups including Count Basie, Doc Severinsen, Aretha Franklin, Jerry Lewis, Diane Shuur, The Four Freshman, Manhattan Transfer and Mannheim Steamroller. In addition, he has played with the Dayton, Springfield, Oklahoma City, Abilene, and San Angelo Orchestras. Mark also enjoyed playing for many churches and enjoyed hiking. Sadly, he passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at the age of 58.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years: Helen (Colestock) Wilcox, 2 sons, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, parents, 1 sister, 1 nephew, 1 niece, father-in-law: Jim, relatives and many friends that will dearly miss him.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood) with Pastor Jody McGuire officiating. Interment will follow the service at Polk Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the McMurry University Music Department.
