Alois Frederick 'Al' Butler
13 July 1929 - 27 June 2014

Alois Frederick Butler, 84, passed away Friday, June 27, in Bolivar, Mo.

He was born on July 13, 1929 to Theodore and Mary (Fischl) Butler in Independence, Mo.

He was the fifth of six children. Brother to Theodore (Warren), Hope, Johnny, Wesley, and Jennie Lee.

He spent his early years in Independence until his father's tragic death in 1937. Then, Mary took her children to Weir, Kan., where Al spent his teen years.

While in high school, he met Phyllis Sill. They were married on May 7, 1948 and made their home in Independence, Mo. Together they raised four children and were married for nearly 52 years before Phyllis' death.

In July 2001 Al married Raye Winder Butler and became stepfather to her four sons.

Among the things most important to him were his family, friends, and faith.

Al was a selftaught craftsman and a man of many talents. He worked very hard for most of his life laying flooring and other construction jobs. An excellent craftsman, he loved to build and fix things and there was nothing he would not try to repair, for he enjoyed the challenge of a complex project.

He had a wonderful sense of humor; one of the things his family will miss most is his ability to make up silly songs on the fly.

Al is survived by his wife, Raye; his sister, Hope; his four children, Pamela Gregory (Kelly), Mary Brown (Larry), Alois, Jr., and Joseph; his four step-sons and their families: Larry (Liz), Mark (Marcia), Mike (Dawn), and Rob (Ann); seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, 19 step-great-grandchildren, one step-great-great-granddaughter and scores of dear friends.

Services were held Tuesday, July 1, at First Baptist Church in Bolivar, Mo.

Burial followed at Hosey Hill Cemetery in Weir, Kan.
