Thomas William Stone, Sr was the 2nd of 7 children of John Edward and Atje Leistra Stone (siblings Rowleen, Cora, Virginia, Minnie, James and Bonnie; and 2 half sibling from his father, Blossie and John). 1900 census he is 5 and living with his parents, 2 half siblings and 3 siblings. His father is working as a carpenter. 1910 census Tom is living at home with his parents and 6 siblings in Chesterfield, VA. His father is a blacksmith and Tom is working from home as a "saw-filer". In 1917 he marries Anne Thornton Veitch and on the 1920 census is listed as head of the home (rented) in Henrico, VA and has his wife and 3 sister-in-laws living in the home. His occupation is saw filer for the meat market. In 1920 he and Annie have baby Elizabeth Veitch Stone who dies of convulsions at 1 day old. In 1921 them have premature sons who both live about 5 hrs. Death certificates say they were buried 29 July 1921 in Oakwood Cemetery, Richmond, Va. Their son, Thomas, Jr. is born in 1925. In 1930 he owns a home valued at $800 & is living in Chesterfield, VA with his wife, 5 yr old son and making his living as a saw filer working on his own. In 1940 we learn his highest school level completed was 5th grade. He works 48 hrs a week saw filing & he, Anne & Thomas Jr are living in Chesterfield. Thomas died at age 60 of heart problems. The following obit was taped by his sister, Minnie, to the inside of his mother's bible: Thomas W. Stone, Funeral services for Thomas William Stone, 60, of 2515 Lamberts Ave, who died yesterday in a Richmond Hospital will be held at 3:30 PM tomorrow at the Joseph W. Bliley Funeral Home, where the remains now rest. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Stone, a carpenter, is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie V. Stone; a son, Thomas W. Stone Jr., of Richmond, a brother, James C. Stone, also of Richmond, two sisters, Mrs. Edgar (Cora) Culley, of Glen Allen, and Mrs Herman (Minnie) Austin, of Richmond.
