Frances Kay (Fran) Feist Smith, 87, of Yakima, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord & Savior on July 9, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at Yakima Regional Hospital.

Fran was born June 10, 1928 to Conrad & Rosella Feist. She was raised on one of the best, largest farms in the state of North Dakota for its time. Mom, along with her siblings, knew what hard work was all about from a very young age. I remember her telling us kids stories of when she would have to get up at 4:00 in the morning to help milk the cows before school would start.

She worked on the farm until the age of 19 when she decided to move to Yakima to start a new life. Her first job in Yakima was working at the Newberry's Soda Fountain on Yakima Avenue.

In 1954, she married Mickey Smith with whom she had 3 children. In some of her later years, she worked at various warehouses as an apple packer.

One of her all-time favorite activities was dancing. Mom loved to dance the night away. She also enjoyed crocheting, making several doilies and a few drawstring purses, until arthritis set in her hands and it became an impossible task. Mom looked forward to family gatherings, to visit, see everyone have good food and kick back. Mom dearly loved her children along with her only grandchild, Shannon and great grandchildren, Taylor & Shaylee, which she would babysit often and taught them some words in the German language. Mom was their "Nana."

If heaven had a window and God granted us a view, of all the beauty it beholds, I'd only look for you. I'd listen for your laughter that was always music to me, your beautiful hair and blue eyes is what I'd wish most to see.

Fran is survived by her children, Debbie (Elmer), Cory (Jodi), and Pam (Perry); grandson, Shannon (Flo); great grandchildren, Taylor and Shaylee; step grandchildren, Steven, Brittany and Kyle; brothers, Jerome (Janice) and Mike (Bessie); sister, Mary Eva; and many special nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister Joanne.

A funeral service in her honor will be held at Rainier Memorial Center on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Rainier Memorial Center of Yakima.
