John M. (Mick) Dial, 74, of 426 South Davis street, died at Ottumwa hospital at 1:45 a.m. today. The son of Wilson and Elizabeth Wiley Dial, he was born near Eldon, June 28, 1883.
He had been a resident of Wapello county all his life, and of Ottumwa for the past 44 years. He was a former coal miner and operator and worked in the Milwaukee railroad fright house, retiring nine years ago. He was a member of Empire lodge No. 269, A.F. & A.M.
Mr. Dial was married to Mamie White, November 11, 1927. She preceded him in death December 10, 1937.
Surviving are two brothers, Grant Dial of Blakesburg route 2, and Thomas Dial of Ottumwa; four sisters, Mrs. Georgia Goodwin and Miss Edna Dial both of Ottumwa; Mrs. Grace Quigley of Eldon, and Mrs. Anna Pilcher of Des Moines. He was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Johnson funeral chapel, in charge of the Rev. La Verne Morris, pastor of the Davis Street Christian church. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery. Masonic services will be in charge of Empire lodge No. 269, A.F. & A.M.
Pallbearers will be nephews Otto Goodwin, Joseph Goodwin, Kenneth Goodwin, Ralph Dial, Raymond Dial, and Glen Dial.
