HAMPDEN – Carroll Clayton Allen, 87, left for an eternal home of peace and rest on July 9, 2015 at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor surrounded by family. He was born February 2, 1928 in Phair Junction, Maine.

He is survived by Geneva his wife of 65 years, step brother Russell and wife Marilyn, his son Edward and wife Lorraine, son Roy and wife Tracey, son-in-law Philip Badger, daughter-in-law Bonnie Allen, grandson Justin Allen and his wife, Autumn, grandson Benjamin Allen, granddaughter Kelly Carson and her husband, Chris, and great granddaughter Madeline Allen, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sister Maxine Dubay, daughter Brenda Badger, son Dennis Allen.

He grew up and attended school in Presque Isle and Mars Hill before moving to the Corinna-Dexter area. Carroll joined the U.S. Army just short of his 18th birthday and spent 2 ½ years in Germany as part of the post war peace keeping efforts. After his military service he attended Coyne Electrical and Technical School in Boston, MA. He went on to become a Master Electrician and successful businessman, owning an electrical contracting business in the Bangor area for 37 years.

Known as “Father” to friends and family alike, he was a self made man who welcomed new challenges and opportunities, and strove to excel in these endeavors. He was a long time member and past president of the Hampden Kiwanis; Life member of Post 4633 VFW Hampden; Life member of Millwee Chapter 198 Order of the Eastern Star; Member of the Mystic Lodge 65 Hampden, ME; and a Member of Anah Shriners, Bangor ME.

As a long time member of the Power Squadron of Penobscot Bay, he was an accomplished seaman having attained the Advanced Piloting achievement. He and Geneva made six solo boat trips from Castine, Maine to Daytona Beach FL. He was a master pistol marksman, Lifetime NRA member and Maine State Pistol Champion several times. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed golf in his later years.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Maine Veteran’s Home Bangor and New Hope Hospice for their family support and competent care giving.
