She grew up in Chicago and in Mound, Minnesota, where at 17, she met Orville Iverson who was to become the joy and love of her life for nearly 69 years of marriage. During that time they were blessed with four children. Motherhood and homemaking, faith and hospitality were Mary's hallmark. She brought her special kind of love and joy to the many who were to know her throughout her life.
In her 30's, Mary enrolled in Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California, to prepare herself for a teaching career. After earning her degree and her teaching certificate, she taught in the Redwood City, California School District for 17 years. She was a highly respected Mentor-Teacher in the last years of her professional life and received special recognition for her teaching abilities. She brought joy, respect and self-esteem to the many children she taught over those years. Students often came back to visit her years later and express their gratitude.
In addition to her teaching, Mary, along with her husband Orv, was for 50 years a faithful and much loved member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Redwood City, California. Mary and Orv also enjoyed their wine country bicycle group for many years. They continued through last November to have an annual dinner gathering for the group at Mary and Orv's home in Woodside.
Mary is survived by her husband Orville, her children Deanna Foster (Daniel), Rachel Albright (Adam), Thom (Renee), and Lora Quinlan (Steve), her sisters Ila Jean Kragthorpe (Ron), and Thalia Massoni, her grandchildren Luke, Matthew, Nadine, Elliot and Madeleine, Mika, Reed and Garrett, Emily and Jocelyn, Colby and Karina as well as 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved with great tenderness. She was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Schimmel Warrington and two brothers Ronald Jr. and William Warrington.
