Mr. Patrick Brislan, J.P.
The death of Mr. Patrick Brislan, one of the pioneers of the Wagga district, took place on Tuesday, the 13th inst., at his residence 'Killina,' Canonbury Grove, Dulwich Hill. Deceased was born in Killina, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, in the year 1833 and came to Australia in 1854.

He joined the Mounted Police, and was stationed at Tumbarumba, Urana, Germanton, and finally at Wagga. As senior constable , he had several exciting encounters with Morgan in the bush ranging days. Turning his energies to pastoral pursuits, he selected lands in several parts of the Riverina.
Settling down, he formed the well-known property, 'French Park,' in the Lockhart district, where he lived until two years ago, when, through ill health, he was compelled to retire. He leased the property and came to Sydney.

In political matters he took a keen interest, and was noted for ardent advocacy of protection. The protectionist candidates always found in Mr. Brislan a zealous adherent, and he was mainly instrumental in securing their return from time to time. He was foremost in successfully advocating the construction of The Rock to Lockhart railway, and was a leading spirit in all movements for the advance of the district.

During his illness he was spiritually attended by the Rev. W. Hayden, of Fern Hill, who administered the last rites of the Church prior to his death, Deceased leaves a widow and four sons— John, Patrick, James, and William — and five daughters —Mrs. E. Fogarty (Temora), Mrs. John Moloney (Coolamon), Sister M. Mechtildus (Convent of Mercy, Murrumburrah), Sister M. Gertrude (Convent of Mercy, Junee), and Miss Julie Brislan (Sydney) — to mourn their loss.

The remains were interred in the special portion of the Rookwood cemetery. All the members of deceased's family were present, also Messrs. Mc Donnell (of McDonnell and Moffat, solicitors, Sydney), J. R. Keenan (of J. R. Keenan and Co., fat stock salesmen, Sydney), J. H. Palmer (Chatswood ), and others. Rev. Father Kirby officiated at the.— R.I.P.
