RIDGEWAY, Mo. - Audrey C. Bowen, 77, Ridgeway, died Monday, Feb. 20, 1995, at the Cameron, Mo., hospital.

Born in Harrison County, Mo., Mr. Bowen had lived in Eagleville, Mo., before moving to Ridgeway.

He had been employed by the Phillips Oil Co., retiring in 1979.

Mr. Bowen was a member of the First Baptist Church, Blythedale, Mo.

On Aug. 30, 1939, he married Ethel Parkhurst at Bethany, Mo. She survives of the home.

Mr. Bowen was preceded in death by a grandchild.

Additional survivors: three sons, Harold and Deryle, Eagleville, and Royce, Blythedale; two daughters, Coleen Houston, Stanberry, Mo., and Dorothy Graham, Ridgeway; a brother, Deryle, Moorhead, Iowa; four sisters, Doris and Maxine Parkhurst, Eagleville, Edna Johnson, Bethany and Jessie Williams, Grand River, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Bethany Memorial Chapel, Bethany. Burial: Cedar Hill Cemetery, Blythedale. Visitation: after noon today, at the chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight.

Audrey Claire Bowen, second child of Bertha Mae and Otha Waring Bowen, was born October 13, 1917, and departed this life on February 20, 1995, at the age of 77 years, 4 months, and 7 days.

In 1939 he was married to Ethel Violet Parkhurst, his beloved wife of 55 years. To this union 5 children were born, Coleen Houston of Stanberry, Mo., Dorothy Graham of Ridgeway, Mo., Harold and Daryle Gene Bowen of Eagleville, Mo., and Royce Bowen of Blythedale, Mo.

As a child Audrey attended Lone Rock, Shady Grove, and High Point Country Schools and completed an 8th grade education which was the norm of that time.

He was a kind, honest, hard working, and a very gentle man. He was a devoted husband and a loving father. One daughter describes him as a Rose, and now the rose is gone. Most of his life was spent in Harrison County except for 2 years that he moved his family to State Center, Iowa, where he worked on a chicken farm. He worked as a filling station attendant for many years to provide for his family. He retired from Cole and Myers at Bethany. He had also worked for MFA of Bethany, and Eagleville Oil.

In 1972 Audrey received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was a member of the Blythedale Baptist Church and was baptized at that time.

And yes we remember that your legs were so long that you were uncomfortable in the church pews. Your legs always touched the pew in front of you.

Audrey was preceded in death by both of his parents, and 1 grandson, Victor Dewayne Bowen. He leaves to mourn his passing, His beloved wife, Ethel of Ridgeway, Mo., his 5 children and their mates, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters, 1 brother, and a numerous host of nieces, nephews, and family.

Pallbearers were nephews Carl Parkhurst, Marvin Parkhurst, Richard Parkhurst, Jimmy Parkhurst, Claire Parkhurst, Jerry Hale and Jackie Fosdick.
