MOORHEAD, Iowa | Deryle R. Bowen, 87, of Moorhead died Sunday, July 13, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

Services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Michael Brown officiating. Private family graveside services will be in Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.rushfamilycareservice.com.

Deryle Rex Bowen was born on May 9, 1927, in Hatfield, Mo., the son of Otha Waring and Bertha Mae (White) Bowen. He moved to Iowa in 1947 and worked for Raymond Smith of Dunlap, Iowa, and Russell Jones, and Elmer Shol, both of Moorhead.

Deryle and Darlene Shol were united in marriage on May 21, 1949, at Christian Church parsonage in Onawa. The couple raised two daughters, Debra Mae and Denise Kay. The couple farmed around the Moorhead area. While in Dunlap, he took training in radio and TV repairs and worked in Omaha and had a TV shop in Moorhead for a while. He also worked as a carpenter on the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant and helped build new homes in Denison, Iowa. The couple lived south of Moorhead for 22 years on the Earl Bressman farm before retiring in 1993 and moved into the town of Moorhead.

Deryle was a member of Moorhead Christian Church. He was a member of the NFO and served on the Moorhead Co-op Board, the Western Iowa Precondition Cattleman's Association and the ASCS Nominating Committee. He was a member of the Siouxland Country Music Association based out of Sioux City. He loved to dance and listen to old-time country music.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Darlene of Moorhead; two daughters, Debra (Robert) Winter of Auburn, Iowa, and Denise (Tom) Davie of Dunlap, Iowa; five grandchildren, Tamara L. (Justin) Piittmann, Terri A. Valquier, Justin D. Allen, Michael P. (Elizabeth) Davie, and Steven T. Davie; nine great-grandchildren, Brett Mohr, Jordynne Piittmann, Andralynne Piittmann, Mia Valquier, Sofia Valquier, Nicolas Allen, Natalie Allen, Nolan Davie, and Olivia Davie; and two great-great-grandchildren, Jaydynne Mohr and Jersey Mohr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; three sisters; and one infant grandson.
