Jean B. Bryant, 84 died Tuesday, July 7, 2015, due to cardiac arrest.

She was born in Coaldale, Ark., on March 10, 1931, to James (Jime) B. and Leona (Huckaby) Ritter. Jean was the youngest of five children.

She attended school at Bates, Ark., where she loved to perform in school plays. Growing up, Jean and two of her nieces formed a trio and sang gospel songs for community churches in their area. She loved to play the guitar for their group's performances.

She moved to Muskogee in 1943 and worked for her sister who was managing the Rex Hotel. In 1949 she married William "Bill" Bryant who was stationed at Fort Sill. In 1953 he was deployed to Wiesbaden, Germany, where they lived until returning to Talihina in 1956.

At Talihina she owned and operated Jean's Beauty Shop for 14 years. Upon returning to Muskogee, she worked as a private duty nurse for 25 years.

She was a member of the Aichihoya Eastern Star 104 and York Street Christian Church. She also volunteered many hours at the Veteran's Hospital.

One of her greatest joys was traveling to gospel singing conventions in Texas, Tennessee, Missouri, North Carolina, Arkansas and Oklahoma. She most recently attended her last singing July 4. She especially loved flower gardening and was known for sharing her flowers via arrangements to friends. She leaves behind beautiful hand beaded jewelry, crocheted and knitted works of art.

She was an intuitive woman with an uncanny sixth sense that amazingly became stronger during the fifth stage of Alzheimer's. She continued to be a powerful prayer warrior.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents, Jim and Leona Ritter; two brothers, Taft and Pate Ritter; and two sisters, Lois Sherrill and Selma Perryman.

She is survived by her daughter, Gayle Piester and husband, Bill; son, William Charles (Charlie) Bryant; grandson, Rob Piester and wife, Nicole; great-grandchildren, Will and Charis Piester.

Many thanks to the staff of Brookdale Senior Living Center (Magnolia Gardens) for their care, provision and support to residents and their families living with Alzheimer's. A special thank you to Dr. Lori Arney and staff for extended medical treatment and quality time given to Jean. A huge thank you to Muskogee EMS and Eastar ER staff for their dedication and diligence in assisting those in need 24/7. Last but not least thank you to Emma Cole for being a supportive understanding neighbor.

A graveside service held Monday, July 13, at Fort Gibson National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home, Muskogee.
