Mrs. Sarah Luella Ross, familiarly known to many Albion friends as "Grandma" Ross passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Hudlow, Saturday, October 2nd, age 88 years and 1 day. A few days earlier she suffered the fracture of one of her hips and in her advanced age was unable to survive the resulting shock.

Sarah Luella Ross was born in New Hampshire, October 1, 1838. She was united in marriage to Hiram T. Johnson, October 1, 1854. To this union were born three boys and three girls, Frank Merrill, William Baker, Frederic, Flora Lucinda, Lillie Bell and Lilah who died in her infancy. Her first husband preceded her in death in the year 1877. She was later united in marriage to William Ross, December 23, 1879, who also preceded her in death January 4, 1912. Word was received that her brother R. W. Terrill of Manchester, Iowa, died Saturday morning, October 2nd, at seven o'clock and she passed away in the afternoon of the same day at fifteen minutes to six o'clock. She was one of the early settlers of Boone county who came in the early pioneer days and settled on a homestead in Pleasant Valley, north of Albion, where she spent many years of her useful life. She later moved to Albion where she made her home until the time of her decease. She was a good home maker and a kind, sympathetic and true wife and mother. She was always mindful of the comforts and the welfare of her family and a friend and helper to the sick and needy. Her life was quiet and unassuming and characterized by truth, honesty and purity. Her gentle manner and kindly disposition made her much beloved by all who knew her. In the year 1883 she was converted and united with the First Baptist church of Albion, and has lived a faithful and consistent Christian life until her death. In the death of Mrs. Ross this community has lost a useful and worthy citizen. And the church has lost one of its dearest members, whose memory will always live in our hearts and whose life will be an inspiration to us in the service of the Master. She leave to mourn her loss two daughters, Mrs. Flora L. Gorst of Marquett, Michigan, and Mrs. John Hudlow, of Albion, Nebraska, two step daughters, Mrs. Margaret and Eliza Baker both of Albion, Nebraska, two brothers, Frank Terrill of Lodi, Wisconsin, Dewitt Terrill of Madison, Wisconsin, one sister, Mrs. Mary Shumway, of Lodi, Wisconsin, five grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, eleven great, great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
