He was born Sept. 12, 1922, in Fairlee, Md., the son of Edith (McKay) and Harry Stavely. He married Pauline Burris on Oct. 30, 1945, in Fort Smith. She preceded him in death Aug. 21, 2014, in Fort Smith. Mr. Stavely was a WWII veteran, serving in Army Air Corps from 1942-45 in France and England. He worked at the Creosote Plant for 31 years, retiring as superintendent. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years, where he served as secretary for 37 years. He was also a member of Sallisaw Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, Sallisaw School Board for 20 years, American Legion for more than 50 years and the Sallisaw Airport Committee.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years, where he served as secretary for 37 years. He was also a member of Sallisaw Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, Sallisaw School Board for 20 years, American Legion for more than 50 years and the Sallisaw Airport Committee.

Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Clayton Jones of Nixa, Mo.; a son, Ken Stavely of Sallisaw; six grandchildren, Richard, Frances, Julie, Jay, Shelby and Kendall; three great-grandchildren, Rachael, Jason and Kate; a brother, David Stavely of Saulsbury, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Pauline; his parents; a sister, Estelle; and a brother, James.

Funeral service will be Wednesday at 10:30 am at First Presbyterian Church in Sallisaw. Burial will follow at Sallisaw City Cemetery. Viewing will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Agent Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, where the family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m.

Active pallbearers will be members of Sallisaw Volunteer Fire Department.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Sallisaw.
