James E. Montgomery, Sr., 93, of rural Kirkland, died Thursday, September 21, 2000, at his home. He was born December 3, 1906 near Malta, IL, the son of Edward and Nettie (Applebee) Montgomery. He was married to Mildred Darnell and then to Mildred Carter. He farmed in the Kirkland, Esmond, Malta areas all of his life. He belonged to the Northwest United Methodist Church near Malta, and attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Belvidere. Formerly, he was a member of the Lions Club and served fourteen years on the Hiawatha School Board. He also belonged to the DeKalb Co. Farm Bureau. He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of rural Kirkland; two sons, James E. (Rebecca) Montgomery, Jr. of Kingston, Carter (Doris) Montgomery of Sanford, Maine; seven daughters, Bonnie (Kent) Kollman of Red Bluff, CA, Carol Miller of Malta, Marilyn Montgomery of Morrison, Sharon (Don) May of Low Gap, NC, Janice (Tony) Suber of San Antonio, TX, Rebecca (Rod) Rodriguez, of Weslaco, TX, Ruth (John) Johnson, of Rhinelander, WI; a brother, Wilbur (Helen) Montgomery, of Esmond; three sisters, Grace Kiger of Crown Point, IN, Pearl Olson, of Machesney Park, and Inez (Chuck) Knox of Lower Lake, CA; eighteen grandchildren, Dan and Kim Hove, Kelly Pryor, Michelle Worthington, Chris Miller, Sheila Cobb, Jennifer Dulock, Emily Suber, Rodri and Elizabeth Rodriguez, Phillip, Bethany, Joel, Matthew, and Rachel Montgomery, Amy Johnson, John Johnson III, and Brittany Montgomery; nine great-grandchildren, Chris and Stacy Hove, Dennis Sinetus, Elizabeth Hove, Marshall Pryor, Jessica Pryor, Jonathon Pryor, Ryan Miller, Maggie Miller; a great great-grandson, William Hove; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mildred (Darnell) Montgomery; two grandchildren, Ronald and Mark Miller; a brother, Alvin Montgomery; and a sister, Rachel Berg. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 25th at 1 p.m. in Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home with Pastor Todd Neff and Pastor William Bergstrom officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery in Kirkland. A memorial fund is established in care of Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home, 309 S.
