Wendy M. (Adkins) Bennett, 44, of Sioux Falls died Thursday, July 6, 2006 following a courageous battle with cancer.
Wendy M. Adkins was born July 19, 1961 to Richard C. Adkins, Jr. and Carol Bergsma. She is the daughter and step-daughter of Richard C. and Kay Adkins and the grand daughter of Richard C. Adkins, Sr. and Hazel Adkins.
She grew up in Sioux Falls attending Eugene Field Elementary, Whittier Middle School, and graduated from Lincoln Sr. High School in 1979. She began employment with Haffners in 1981. She later began work with the South Dakota Department of Health in 1990. Wendy was currently employed until ill health forced her to retire in February.
On September 14, 1991, Wendy married Dale Bennett in Sioux Falls. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Dale; 1 daughter, Molly; 1 son, Richard, both at home; her step mother Kay Adkins; 3 sisters, Ann Feltis (Frank) of Grand Rapids, MI, Kelly Steen (Mike), Peggy Stansell (Roger); 1 brother, Marty Adkins (Misty) of Colton, SD; a half sister, Christine Hensley of Houston, TX; 2 additional half sisters and 1 half brother, Rick Murray, of Sioux Falls, SD; and 1 additional half brother; 5 nieces, Amy, Katie, Ashton, Jenny and Jessy; 5 nephews, Tanner, Logan, Zach, Keith, and Skyler; and 9 additional nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends, Cliff and Bea Dvorcek and Deb and Jay Bontje and families.
Wendy was preceded in death by her father, Richard Adkins, Jr.; her mother, Carol Bergsma; and her paternal grandparents, Richard and Hazel Adkins, Sr.
Wendy's passion was bowling with her husband, sister, and brother-in-law. She also loved to cross stitch, camp and spend time with her family.
Wendy will be lovingly remembered for her generous heart, constant support, and her laid back personality.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
