Vernon F. Klueter, age 87, of Glen Carbon, Illinois died at 12:46 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois. Vernon was co-owner of Klueter Feed Store in Edwardsville from 1953-65. He retired as office manager from Smurfit-Stone in Highland, Illinois where he worked from 1966-91. Vernon was born April 24, 1928, in Edwardsville, Illinois, the son of the late Emil J. & Matilda (Dettmer) Klueter. He married Eunice Knoche on August 5, 1951, and she preceded him in death on May 11, 1989. He later married Dorothy Hanser Neuhaus on October 26, 1991, and she preceded him in death on January 2, 2014. Vernon is survived by 1 son, Kenneth Klueter & wife Ann of Marietta, Georgia; 2 daughters, Karla Klueter of Carbondale, Illinois and Kim Morzak & husband Edward of Dallas, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Elizabeth Klueter, Daniel Klueter, and Lauren Tubbs & husband Cody; 1 great-granddaughter, Reagan; 3 step-children, Rick Neuhaus & wife Cindy, Gary Neuhaus & wife Janet, and Annette Griebel; and 3 step-grandchildren, Nick & Megan Griebel, and Joe Ball. Vernon was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Edwardsville. He also served on the Church Council at Eden United Church of Christ from 1963-65 and was treasurer in 1965. He was a former member of the Highland United Church of Christ from 1966-81, where he served on the church council finance committee. Vernon was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a bowler for many years and loved to travel. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015, at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Edwardsville. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Diane Grohmann officiating. According to his wishes Vernon was cremated and a graveside committal will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 20th at Highland City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul United Church of Christ.
