SCARBOROUGH - Doris-Gene "Gram" Briggs, 97, passed away peacefully at her home on January 12, 2015.

Life:
The daughter of Frank C & Estelle (Gerst) Furbush, she was born in Akron Ohio in 1917.
She was a 1935 graduate of Portland High School, and a graduate of the Northeast Business College.
While working for a short time for the telephone company, she met and married C. Kenneth Briggs in 1941.
She went to work in 1944 at B & M and stayed on after her husband was killed in action in Germany in 1945.
After losing the one true love of her life, she raised her daughter Polly Ann as a single mother, with the help of her parents. She retired from B & M in 1978 after 34 years of service.
Throughout her life she was a member of many clubs and organizations, including the Deering Chapter #59, the O.E.S., the American Legion Auxiliary, the D.A.R., the W.L.D., the Embroiders Guild, Beta Sigma Phi, and the Gold Star Wives.
She was a member of Woodford's Church, and was one of the first female deacons. Her hobbies included gardening, ceramics, and traveling to many worldwide destinations. Her favorite trips were to the British Isles, especially England which she visited at least 12 times.

Family:
Doris-Gene is survived by her daughter, Polly Ann Curry and her husband Philip;
her four grandchildren, Karen Brann, and her husband David, Charles Curry, and his partner Christina McGinley, Peter Curry and his wife Heather, and Jennifer Curry and her husband Michael Rumery;
five great-grandchildren, Kaeley Brann, Maeve & Finn Barr, and Alexander & Nicholas Curry.

There will be a private family service.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Doris-Gene's memory to: Rett Syndrome Research Trust(RSRT), 67 Under Cliff Rd, Trumbull, CT 06611
