Verna was born September 27, 1936 to John and Wilma (Hughes) Dutton, in Green Mountain, Iowa. She attended school in Marshalltown, IA graduating in 1955. Verna was united in marriage to Allen F. Packer on June 24, 1955 in Tacoma, Washington. Five daughters were born to this union: Debra (Vernon) Brownfield, Hershey, NE; Sharon (Henry) Ballard, Houston, TX; Sandra (Melvin) Costa, Marysville, WA; Laura (Terry) Nemec, Dell Rapids, SD; and Barbara (Frank) Blake, Derby, KS. Verna enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, cake decorating and many other crafts. After Allen’s retirement, they enjoyed weekly card games with friends; traveling cross country, often on back roads and discovering new sights.
Verna is survived by her devoted husband Allen; daughters Debbie, Sharon, Sandy, Laura and Barb; grandchildren Tonia (Calvin) Soren; Lindsay Brownfield; Crystal (Ryan) Polly; Melissa (Scott) Radke; Cody (Jessica) Ballard; Jennifer Nemec; Jackie Nemec; Shawn (Lanae) Blake; and Melvin (Brooke) Costa Jr; great-grandchildren Carter Radke; Kaitlynn and Zane Polly; David Ballard; Joseph Lawrence Jr; Trafton and Clinton Soren; Brooklyn, Izaiah, Nylah and Nolan Costa; one sister Pauline (Donovan) White; one brother Verle Dutton; and many nieces and nephews. In eternal life Verna has been reunited with her grandson Marques Allen Kapayou; her parents; her sisters Thelma Packer, Elaine Lenox, and Colleen Dutton.
