MARY DORIS CAMERON APPLE
CARTHAGE - Mary Doris Cameron Apple, 87, of Carthage, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday (7/1/15) at Brookdale at Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2015 at White Hill Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Brown Patton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Affectionately known to many as "Tootie," she was the daughter of the late Bernice Cameron and Mary Belle Coley Cameron. She was married to the late Roscoe L. Apple. She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Lorraine Cameron.

A graduate of Carthage High School, she attended Campbell College. She was a long-time employee of Shields Drug Company, where she made countless friends and was well known for her ability to make delicious Orangeaids and Cherry Smashes. It was there that she met a handsome patrolman new to Carthage who would later become her husband. She also worked at Rite-Aid Drug Store and Kerr Drugs.

She loved her God, her church and the church family at White Hill Presbyterian Church, where she was a lifelong member. She was one of the first two women Elders of the church. In addition, she served as Clerk of the Session for many years. She was the first recipient of the Outstanding Older Adult Award at White Hill Church in 2002. At White Hill, she served as a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, and Circle member. For many years, she served White Hill by delivering the Sunday morning children's sermons where she was loved by countless young people. She was one of the charter members of the church's older adults Happy Group. She was a member of the Carthage Eastern Star.

She will be remembered for her vibrant personality and her love for her family and friends alike. She loved working in her yard, shopping, trips to the beach, and talking to her animals. She also loved her new friends at Brookdale at Pinehurst, where she enjoyed playing Bingo and socializing.

Left to treasure her memory are her daughter, Bernice Boone Apple Hight and son-in-law R.V. Hight of Sanford; grandchildren, Christopher Vance Hight and his wife Jenni Hight of Morrisville, and Holly Caroline Hight of Sanford; sister in laws: Evelyn Wall and Nina Apple, of Gibsonville; three nieces and numerous cousins that she held dear. She also is survived by her dear kitties, Mama Cat, Layla and Jesse Belle.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 pm at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
