Donald Eugene Breen, 84, longtime resident of Pocatello, passed away Thursday evening November 1, 2012 at a local care center.
He was born September 18, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Francis Patrick and Eva Goldie Rupp Breen.
He attended schools in Salt Lake City, Utah. He moved to Pocatello when he was 18 years old and lived with his grandparents.
He married Gail Ann Richardson on March 20, 1951 in Blackfoot, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. Gail passed away on August 3, 2011.
He served in the United States Army, in the Korean War and several years in the National Guard.
He worked for U.P.R.R. for a few years, then drove truck for Garrett Freightliners for 35 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in various callings including secretary of the Elders Quorum, in the Sunday school presidency, member of the High Priest Group and home teacher.
He enjoyed painting by numbers, watching boxing, wrestling, fly fishing, camping and yard work. He was a light heavy weight boxing champion in the Army.
Donald is survived by three sons, David Thomas Breen, Mountain Home, Idaho; Dan Eugene (Kat) Breen, Pocatello, Idaho; Paul Gail (Lorie) Breen, Jerome, Idaho; two brothers, Robert Breen, Utah; Terry (Pat) Breen, Utah; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, DonAnn Breen; 1 brother, Frank Breen.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the L.D.S. West Stake Center (Hawthorne & Eldredge), with Bishop Boyd Rowe of the 18th Ward officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening, November 5, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and on Tuesday from 12 Noon to 12:45 p.m. at the church prior to services.
Interment will be in the Mountainview Cemetery with military rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
