Obituary published in The Bienville Democrat (Arcadia LA) November 27, 1919 (as published in Claiborne Parish Trails, 1998 #3):
(Social & Personal) The sad news of Mrs. Wayne Currie's illness and death, which occurred last week in Dyersburg, Tenn., at the home of her parents, was received here with the deepest sorrow, for Mrs. Currie was very much loved by the friends who knew her as Miss Gertrude Pike, a very efficient and popular member of the Arcadia High School faculty several years ago. Then after her marriage to Mr. Currie their home was still in Arcadia, until they moved to Sibley some months ago, where Mr. Currie was engaged in business.
Mrs. Currie leaves two small children, one a tiny infant daughter, two weeks old, and a little son, Joe, a bright, pretty boy of two and one half years. She contracted pneumonia which proved fatal last Saturday. Mr. Currie has also been desperately ill with the same malady, and the latest news from him is not at all encouraging, his death being expected at any time. His condition is the occasion of the gravest concern to his friends and relatives. The deepest sympathy is extended the relatives in their sorrow.
As we go to press the sad news reaches us that Mr. Wayne Currie died this (Thursday) morning at 4:30.
