Walter A. Scherer, 78, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1975, 4 p.m. in Hill Country Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 29, at 10:30 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Stonewall, with the Rev. Kent Bohls officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Scherer was born Jan. 26, 1897 in Willow City, the son of Wilhelm Scherer and Minna Fuhrmann Scherer. He married Gertrude Maenius Jan. 26, 1921, in her parents' home at Albert with Rev. Peter officiating. She preceded him in death Jan. 28, 1944.
Survivors include two daughters and a son, Margaret, Mrs. Werner Burg, Blanco; Dorothy, Mrs. Francis Merz, Albert; Lester Scherer, Alice; also, nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Emil Scherer, Fredericksburg; and Willie Scherer, Bakersfield, Calif.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife, were two brothers, Alvin and Hilmar Scherer, a sister, Cora, and twin brothers who died in infancy.
Pallbearers were Walter Fuhrmann, Clifford Schumann, Phillip Schmidt, Harvey Schumann, Alvin Maenius Jr. and Dr. Udo Basse.
Mrs. Hugo Maenius was the organist, and the congregation sang two hymns.
