He was born on May 11, 1937 to Frederick Earl Porter and Jennie May Gilbert and grew up on the family ranch up Cub River. He was the third youngest child out of 8 children, having 2 brothers and 5 sisters. He attended high school at Preston High.
Larry married Madge Johnson on June 22, 1956. They raised their family in Pocatello, ID. They were married for 59 years.
Larry was a commercial industrial and heavy equipment mechanic his whole life and had his own business for 44 years, and was very gifted at fixing mechanical problems.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Elders Quorum President, Young Men’s Leader, and Sunday School President.
Larry enjoyed elk and deer hunting with a bow and rifle and loved to camp and fish with his wife and daughters. He was an avid snowmobiler. He loved to tell stories to his family and pull pranks on family members.
Larry is survived by his wife, Madge Porter, Pocatello, ID; daughters, Susan (Junior) Wayas, Pocatello, ID, Carol Spillett, Rockland, ID, Betty (Rod) Pierce, Pocatello, ID, Kathy (Bob) Musetti, Pocatello, ID, Ann (Jim) Helfrich, Yorba Linda, CA; brother, Dorin Porter; sisters, Luana Esplin, Onda Taylor, Donna Anderson, Maxine Lund; 20 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Frederick Porter; mother, Jennie May Gilbert Porter; brother, Woodrow Porter; sister, Odetta Monson; and great-grandson, Bouncy Spillett.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 11 am at the Portneuf LDS Church 8200 W. Portneuf Rd. Pocatello, ID 83204 with a viewing for one hour prior to services.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho 83201.
Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5th Ave. Pocatello, ID 83204.
