Retired USAF Tech. Sgt. Joined US Army Air Force in WW II and served in the European theater in a bomber squadron. Later Air Service became United States Air Force, served in B-36 and B-52 bombers. Served in aircraft maintenance and as tailgunner in Europe. At one time served in 4017th Training Squadron (B-36) at Carswell A.F.B. in Ft. Worth, TX. Retired due to heart condition 1960 and settled in Dallas close to his wife's sister Viola Floyd.

George died in the Veterans Hospital, Dallas (Lisbon) TX of heart failure after years of failing health. Funeral was conducted by Prewitt Fun. Home, Dallas, with full military honors - was difficult to achieve in middle of Viet Nam War for a non-combat related death of a veteran ! His widow appealed directly to the base commander at Carswell AFB (now Joint Reserve Base,Ft Worth).

Born of Polish descent,his parents Ledislaus and Stella immigrated to the US in 1903 from Germany and lived in Milwaukee, Wisc. George changed his name from Konieczny
( pronounced "Ko-nin-che-nee" ) .

He married Grace (Peggy) G. Hogle of Mt Vernon, OH in 1928. She is also buried in Laurel Land a short distance from him. They lived in Milwaukee, WI and Phoenix,AZ before moving to Dallas,TX after his retirement in 1960.


** They Buried both Children **

They had one son George Jr who died age 5 of polio/pneumonia 1935 in AZ and one girl Nancy Ellan who died shortly after birth.

1930 Census shows the "Konieczny Family" George and Peggy -- before they changed their surname to Walker to make it easier to pronounce and remember -- showed them living in Delafield County, Waukesha, WI. -- They were very close to George's sister Josie.
