She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who will be remembered for her love and compassion toward others. She showed her love for her family and her God through her work in her home, her church, and her charity work.
Marlene Marie (Berger) Henning was born to George and Rose Berger on Dec. 20, 1939, on her grandparents' farm near St. Anthony. A few days later her parents took her home to the Berger farm near Flasher. This is where she grew up and attended rural school for seven years and parochial school for one year. In 1953, she left home for Richardton to attend four years of high school where she graduated in May 1957.
In 1959, she left home to go to work in Fessenden at the Well's County Office as a clerk for two years. In 1960, she met Andrew Henning while working in Fessenden and they were married Aug. 5, 1961, at Rainbow Valley Church, north of Ray. Soon after they moved to Stanley and together they raised four boys, Michael, Robert, Floyd and George. In August 1993, she became manager/head volunteer of the Mountrail County Food Bank, a position she held until early 2008. She was blessed to have three grandchildren, Keenan, Lindsey and Tyler. She also had three brothers, Wilfred, Vern and Paul; and three sisters, Bernice, Marietta and Connie.
Marlene is survived by: her husband, Andrew Henning of Stanley; children, Mike Henning of Stanley, Robert Henning of Stanley, Floyd (Bea) Henning of Arvada, Colo., George (Linda) Henning of Evans, Colo.; grandchildren, Keenan Henning of Syracuse, N.Y., Lindsey Henning of Fargo, and Tyler Borgerding of Arvada, Colo.; siblings, Wilfred (Linda) Berger of Flasher, Bernice (Sam) Johnson of Mandan, Vern (June) Berger of Bismarck, Paul (Helen) Berger of Mandan, Marietta (Terry) Neuberger of Mandan, Connie (Kurt) Wetzel of Mandan.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, George and Rose Berger.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2015, in American Lutheran Church, Stanley.
Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Springan Funeral Home, Stanley.
Interment: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Rainbow Valley Cemetery, rural Ray.
