Andrew Charles Henning, 82, Stanley, passed away peacefully February 26, 2016, at the Mountrail Bethel Home. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and teacher who will be remembered for his thoughtfulness and compassion towards others.

Andrew Charles Henning was born on January 15, 1934 to Floyd and Mary (Heaslet) Henning on the family farm eight miles north of Ray, ND. He was the oldest of five children; Andrew, Cecil, Will, Dennis, and Fred.

Andrew attended country school near Wildrose, ND until the 8th grade. He then went to Ray to finish High School. After graduation he attended NDSU in Fargo for 2 years and then transferred to Minot State where he received his B.A in Education.

In 1960, while teaching in Fessenden, ND, he met Marlene Berger and they were married on August 5th, 1961 at the Rainbow Valley Church, just north of the Henning family farm. In 1962 they moved to Stanley and together raised four boys: Michael, Robert, Floyd and George. Andrew taught school for 32 years (1957-1989), the last 27 of those years were in the Stanley school system. He loved working with the students and enjoyed the energy and excitement they had in every day life. He spent most of his years teaching 6th grade and truly loved teaching History and Math.

Andrew was the Municipal Judge in Stanley for 31 years. This was at times a challenging and stressful job.

Andrew was an avid gun enthusiast. He spent many years as both the leader and member of the Stanley Rifle Club. He spent many weekends traveling to tournaments with the club and many evenings teaching school kids about guns and letting them shoot targets in the basement of the Boy Scout Building. Every year he worked hard to put on the Stanley Prone 100 tournament.

After Andrew retired from teaching, he worked at Tri-City Cares for 2 years and then took a position as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Mountrail Bethel Home for the next 10 years. Andrew enjoyed volunteering with his wife, Marlene, at the Mountrail County Food Pantry until 2008.

Andrew is survived by his children: Michael Henning and Robert Henning both from Stanley, ND, Floyd (Bea) Henning, Arvada, CO., and George (Linda) Henning, Evans, CO.; his grandchildren: Keenan Henning, Rapid City, SD, Lindsey Henning, Fargo, ND and Tyler Borgerding, Arvada, CO; and his siblings: Will (Janice) Henning, Dickinson, ND and Dennis Henning, Scottsdale, AZ.

Andrew was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; parents, Floyd and Mary; and brothers: Cecil and Fredrick.
