He was preceded in death by his sisters; Bonnie Mack Moore, Nellie Mack Dixon, Maude Mack Mathis, and Ruth Passmore Hayes Conner; his brother Jack Mack.
James is survived by numerous nephews including Neal Hayes and wife Hazel of Dallas, NC., Jimmy Harrison of Bessemer City, Sam Greene and wife Myrna of Studio City, Texas; numerous nieces including Iva Mae Wray of Bessemer City.
James was a veteran of the United States Army and, while enlisted, he served under General George S. Patton.
