Claire Hale Spence, 96, of Va. Beach, VA passed into glory Friday, Oct 8, 2021.
Claire was born and reared in Oakley, Idaho, the daughter of the late Wallace and Penola Hale. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Capt. William L. Spence; brothers and sisters, Relia, Ronald, Verla, Eliphet, Whitney, Yvonne, Anna Lou, Hilda; two brothers passing at childbirth; and son-in-law, Robert C. Fink, Sr.
Claire and her husband, Bill, were charter members of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School for several years and remaining active at the church wherever needed. Driving a special ed school bus for the City of Virginia Beach for 35 years, Claire greeted all children lovingly with a smile and a hug.
Claire was also renowned for treating kids, young and old, to her mouth-watering cooking and baking; dressing her family with her remarkable sewing; faithfully supporting the Lady Monarchs with steadfast attendance and delicious cookies; and solving the most challenging of puzzles.
A memorial service will be held November 6, 2021, 11:00 am at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church, 4392 Va. Beach Blvd, Va. Beach, VA 23462 with visitation 30 minutes prior to service. Burial will follow at the Old Hollywood Cemetery, 1100 Pear Tree Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
