Mrs. J. E. Bonadiman, Wife Of Water Leader, Dies at 58

Mrs. Joseph E. Bonadiman, 58, wife of a San Bernardino water leader and a former actress in silent movies, died at 12:10 a.m. Monday at a San Bernardino hospital.
She had been hospitalized for more than a week and was apparently holding her own when an embolism, or blood clot, in the lung resulted in death, according to a family spokesman.
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave.
Funeral mass is set for 9 a.m. tomorrow at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 6885 Del Rosa Ave. Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery.
Mrs. Bonadiman is survived by her husband, Joseph E. Bonadiman, who is a director of the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District and head of the civil engineering firm of Joseph E. Bonadiman & Associates. Also surviving are her sons, Joseph C. Bonadiman and William W. Bonadiman, both of San Bernardino; her mother, Mrs. Hattie Sutton of San Bernardino; a sister, Mrs. Ollie Walt, Sunset Beach, Calif.; two brothers, Walter W. Sutton of Tujunga, Calif., and Tyson H. Sutton of North Hollywood; and nine grandchildren.
Mrs. Bonadiman played in silent films with Mary Pickford, Charles (Buddy) Rogers, and a young beginning actor who later was to win fame as John Wayne. She gave up her career in 1931 to marry and devote herself to family life. She was a native of Sayre, Okla. Her father, a minister, was shot and slain by a cattle rustler. Her mother and the children then moved to Southern California.
In 1960 the family moved from Los Angeles to San Bernardino
where the engineering firm had already developed extensive
business connections.
