William was born in 1763 at Hardyston Township, Sussex County, New Jersey. He was the son of Colonel Charles Beardsley and Mary Cary. William married Mary Wheeler circa 1790 at Sussex County, New Jersey. William moved from Hardyston, Sussex County, New Jersey before 1820 to Elmira, Tioga County, New York.

He & his wife had several other children of which we have no record. The 1820 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Elmira, Chemung Township, Tioga County, New York, the family of William Beardslee. The 1830 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Big Flats, Tioga County, New York, the family of William Bardslee. They were residing near the Amos Stark family.

William departed this life after 1830. He is probably the William Beardslee buried in Sashabaw Cemetery next to Jeffrey, noted as "William Beardslee Grandfather" with no dates. The stones were obviously added or changed at a later date - quite possibly by a grandchild. {From McCurdy & Pollock's research}
