Vernal (Vern) M. Pulley, 69, of Salem, Utah, died of heart failure June 5, 1996. He was born July 13, 1926, in American Fork, Utah, to Elmer A. and Katie Marie Mott Pulley. He married Maurine Brereton November 5, 1947, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He graduated from American Fork High School in 1944. Afterwards he completed training in auto and aircraft engine mechanics at Central Utah Vocational School. He served as a motor sergeant in the 32nd Infantry from 1944-1946 in Korea. After the service he worked for the Oldsmobile Dealership in Provo. He owned and operated Pulley Excavating Company for many years. He was an excavating subcontractor for Utah Power and Light for thirty five years.
Vern enjoyed many years serving as a scoutmaster and explorer leader. He loved the outdoors and had a great appreciation for nature. His favorite hobbies included traveling with his wife; enjoying their time together, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Vern and Maurine cherished the time they served as Sunday School teachers for the 12 and 13 year olds and later the 16 and 17 year olds. He also served as a home teacher for many years. He was a High Priest in the Salem 6th ward.
Vern loved people, had a great sense of humor and will always be remembered by many for his generosity.
Preceded in death by a daughter, Anita Ann Pulley. Three brothers: Orvil, Elmer and Glen Pulley. Survivors include his wife Maurine, his son Thyrol M. Pulley of Provo, his daughters Mrs. Valdean (Marilyn) Cope of Spanish Fork, and Mrs. Terry (Sandra) Bastian of Mona, and ten grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1 1 a.m. in the Salem Stake Center at 470 E. Salem Canal Road. Viewing will be held Sunday, June 9 from 6-8 p.m. at the Walker Mortuary. 187 S. Main Street, Spanish Fork, and Monday, June 10 one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the American Fork Cemetery with Military rites by the Spanish Fork American Legion.
