"Regina Cipriani, a former government and Penn Fruit Co. worker who enjoyed gardening, sewing and vacations in the Poconos, died of Alzheimer's disease Sunday at a Northeast Philadelphia nursing home. She was 71 and lived in Northeast Philadelphia the past two years with a son, Robert. Cipriani lived in Mayfair for about 50 years and raised her six children in an apartment atop Bill's Barber Shop on Frankford Avenue. A devoted wife and mother, she operated a calculating machine for the government for several years and held the same job at Penn Fruit for a while. Born on a farm in Sellersville, Montgomery (sic) County, she grew up in Philadelphia, graduated from St. Laurentius School in Fishtown and took some business courses. An excellent seamstress, she had visions of studying fashion design in New York before marrying William J. Cipriani Sr. She sewed many of her children's clothes. "She would make me these outfits and make me do Elvis impersonations," her son, Robert, laughed. "I mean she made the whole outfit - the pants that split open at the knees, the rhinestones, the cape. Then I'd do my thing and she would just crack up." Cipriani was a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of Consolation Church, where she helped braid palms for Palm Sunday. She was a dog lover who listened to Frank Sinatra and watched soap operas, game shows and drama series. And she enjoyed vacations at the Copa Cabana Lodge in the Poconos. Cipriani also is survived by two other sons, William and Paul; three daughters, Regina, Christina and Jacqueline; one granddaughter; and loving caregiver, Elizabeth Acevedo. Friends may call after 7 tonight at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home, Academy Road near Red Lion. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Our Lady of Consolation Church, Tulip Street and Princeton Avenue, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on Cheltenham Avenue."
