Walter Eakins
Walter J. Eakins, 84, of Ottumwa manor, died this morning at the Manor. Funeral services are pending at Johnson Funeral Chapel.
A retired truck driver, he worked for the former Redmon and Baggett Transfer Companies.
He was born April 3, 1887 in Wapello County, the son of William and Sarah Rose Eakins. He was a member of the First Pentecostal Assembly of God. He married Arena Decker, Nov. 15, 1905 in Ottumwa. She preceded him in death in 1966.
Surviving are four sons, Lawrence of Pompano Beach, Fla.; Eugene of Miami, Fla.; and Lloyd and Wesley, both of Ottumwa; five daughters, Mrs. Flossie Oiler, Redwood City, Calif.; Mrs. Maxine Ware, Mrs. Pauline Conder and Mrs. Olive Wheaton, all of Ottumwa and Mrs. Martha Overturn, Alamosa, Colo.; one sister, Mrs. Olive B. Lawson, Ottumwa; 25 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
