Joe Ben Cummings, 83, of Moody, Texas, died Monday, July 3, 2006, at his Moody residence. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Eagle Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Jon Gartman officiating. Interment will follow in Moody Cemetery under the direction of Cole Chapel. Visitation will be to 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cole Chapel.

Joe Ben was born in Leon Junction, Texas, to the late Herman Cecil and Daisy Belle (Evetts) Cummings and attended school in Flat, Texas. On Jan. 2, 1943, he married Katie Robinson in McGregor. During World War II, he served his country in the Civil Conservation Corps in the U.S. Army until his discharge. In 1951, he moved to Moody from San Antonio. For 40 years, he was in the construction business as a salesman and retired in 1975. He was a member of Eagle Springs Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Cummings.

Survivors include his wife, Katie Cummings, of Moody; sons, Jim Cummings and Scott Cummings, both of Moody; daughters, Marilyn Alton and Kathy Cummings, both of Moody; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters: Billie Sullins, Bobbie Hoffman, and June Yeager, all of McGregor; other relatives and many friends.
